Negotiating Peace with la Guerrilla
I covered EU-sponsored peace talks between the major guerrilla group, FARC, and the Colombian government in San Vicente del Caguan, a territory ceded by the government to the FARC and later taken back. A peace agreement was signed in 2016, but many opposed it, saying that guerrilla was getting away with kidnapping and murder. While the pact was supposed to reduce violence, crime levels have since surged, leading to widespread dissatisfaction with the peace accords. This report is from Time magazine.
