Trying to keep South America’s largest lake clean is a battle lost.

Lake Maracaibo is a great example of what can happen without environmental protection. The fresh-water lake has been polluted by the oil and gas industry and untreated sewage. It also faces salinization from the Caribbean Sea and other challenges. It’s a shame. It could be a major tourist attraction, but tourism has never been promoted well in Venezuela.
